Oxford Clay Pottery Ingredients

UK Clays

A special combination of Ball Clays mined in Devon and Dorset, and China Clay mined in Cornwall.

Rainwater

Rainwater is harvested and used to make clays and glazes, and also used to clean equipment.

Recycled Wood Ash

Waste wood ash is collected as a by-product of domestic heating stoves. The wood ash is mixed with crushed Quartz, Cornish stone and rainwater to make the Oxford Clay pottery glaze.

Eco-friendly Printing

Oxford Clay uses a vegan-friendly printing company called Vegan Print to print product tags and fliers. Vegan Print uses Advanced Plate Technology which saves water and energy and they use vegetable-based, non-toxic inks.

Renewable Energy

The kiln at Oxford Clay is powered using 100% renewable electricity. This energy is generated from solar, wind and water power. The kiln is highly energy-efficient to minimize the energy used during each firing.

Biodegradable Packaging

Pottery is packaged in paper and card packaging which is 100% biodegradable and recyclable. A paper tape with plant-based starch adhesive is used to seal parcels.

Copper Carbonate (Verdrigis)

The green colour of Oxford Clay pottery is created by recycling electrical waste into a colourant known as Verdigris.
